9/10/2015 – WEST FRANKFORT INVITATIONAL NARRATIVE

The Foxes traveled to the West Frankfort Invitational, which took place at the West Frankfort Park, on Thursday.  Before the High School XC Teams ran, there was a large (extremely large) Junior High Cross Country meet. Once the junior high meet was over, it was time for the Lady Foxes to get set to run. Leslie Drone took off hard and within the first mile pulled into 4th place behind three tough Herrin runners. Leslie was closely followed by a Spartan runner and a West Frankfort Redbird, but she was able to hold them off and maintain pace to finish in 4th place overall out of 80+ runners. Raegan Halley and Jasmine Coomes were both trying hard to be the Foxes 2nd runner, Raegan ended up being the 2nd runner placing in 16th place overall. Jasmine finished not too far behind with a 20th place finish. The top 20 runners overall received T-shirts as awards. Kaylee Chapman ran an exceptional race and helped to push the Foxes pass the Redbirds for a 4th place team finish, she was 35th overall. The Redbirds had beat the Foxes by 1 point on Tuesday at Benton. Other Foxes finishers were Maddy Holloman (45th), Schuyler Bailey (47th) and Leah Ragan (53rd).

When the Lady Foxes finished it was time for the boy’s team to run. The Foxes knew coming into the race that Nashville would be the team that would most likely take first in the meet. Tyler Byars set off to run another excellent race and stayed in striking position for the entire race. As the race came down to the final straight away, Tyler surged to pass Nashville’s Brandon Schnitker to move into the first place position. Unfortunately on this day, Tyler was unable to out last Schnitker and he coasted into a very respectable 2nd place finish out of 84 runners with a time of 16:02. Matt Rubenacker (17th) and Logan Hunt (19th) along with Tyler all received awards for being a top 20 finisher. Chad Barnard ran a respectable race and finished in 25th place, Clay Ragan rounded out the top 5 of the Foxes with a 37th place finish. Other Foxes runners in the race were Alex Soltanipanah (47nd) and Trenton Butler (52nd). The Foxes outdistanced some strong teams and finished well. The Foxes are capable of doing a lot better though and if we can get everyone on the same page on the same day, we will be hard to beat.

We also had 3 runners who ran the open race; Jonathon Jaegers, Clayton Cross and Jayda Johnson. Each of those 3 runners ran hard and did well.
