NCOE MEET NARRATIVE 9/4/2015

On a hot and humid day in the first week of September, the Hamilton County Foxes hopped on the bus and headed to Norris City. In the past, this meet had always been a good introduction into the sport of cross country, but that has changed in the past few years. The Foxes have already been to two meets! The running Foxes ran at Fairfield last Monday and at SIU-Edwardsville on last Saturday. The Norris City meet takes place just outside of the NCOE High School. The course is made up of three loops and covers about 2.9 miles. At this meet, all boys and girls run the same race at the same time.

Senior Tyler Byars took off like a bolt and settled into the 1st place position within a half mile or so of the start and never looked back. Tyler coasted into a first place finish with a time of 17:56. Shortly behind Byars was Matt Rubenacker who narrowly got beat in race for second to take third place overall. Logan Hunt and Chad Barnard took the 4th and 5th place with Clay Ragan taking 8th spot giving the Foxes a 1st place team score of 21.

On the girl’s side of the race, Raegan Halley took off and stayed within striking distance of the 1st place girl runner. Raegan continually gained on her and ended up over taking her on the start of the third lap finishing in 1st with a time of 23:10. Jasmine Coomes took the 5th spot with a time of 25:16. Rounding out the top five for the Lady Foxes were Schuyler Bailey (12th), Maddy Holloman (14th) and Kaylee Chapman (15th). The Lady Foxes finished in 1st place as a team with a team score of 47. Senior Leslie Drone did not run in this race.

The Foxes will travel to Benton on Tuesday the 8th and will travel to West Frankfort on Thursday the 10th.  If you are around those areas we would love to have your support at the meet. Details of the events is on the calendar tab of this webpage.
