NARRATIVE Р8/22/2016

The first meet of Hamilton County’s season started out well. The Foxes and Lady Foxes of the new 2016 season headed to Leo French Park in Fairfield to run the Tom Wickham Memorial Invitational. The temperature was in the lower 80s, almost identical to last years temperature. Many of the Lady Foxes’ and Foxes’ parents, and friends made the short trip to Fairfield.

The Lady Foxes ran first, and this year they have a 9 runners total. The Foxes had returning runners; Raegan Halley, Kaylee Chapman, Jasmine Coomes, Leah Ragan and Jayda Johnson. They added Freshmen runners Abby Reyling, Olivia Ragan and Sophomores Jade Lemmons and Mary Lee. Mary Lee transferred to McLeansboro from Chester Illinois and will hopefully be ready to run at the next race the Lady Foxes have. Raegan Halley took 4th place and received the only medal by the Foxes on this day. Kaylee Chapman finished in 16th place while improving her time from last year by over 3 minutes. Olivia Ragan had a strong showing in her first meet as a Fox finishing with a 20th place finish. The other five girls all ran well and hopefully will stay healthy throughout the season and consistently improve over the course of the season. The lady foxes finished in 3rd place out of 7 teams behind a strong Olney and Lawrenceville team.

The next event was the Varsity boys race on the tough 3 mile course. Hunter Braden led the Foxes with a 7th place finish behind 4 tough Olney runners. This was Hunters first official cross country race and he ran well finishing in the low 18s.  Shortly behind Hunter was Logan Hunt who improved his time from the previous year by over one minute, finishing in 11th Place. Clay Ragan finished in 18th Place and Matt Rubenacker finished in 20th. The Foxes top 5 was rounded out by Alex Soltanipanah in 22nd place. The boys team has a lot of talent with 7 to 9 runners all working for the top 5 places and should be able to really make some wave over the next few years.

The Foxes this year also have enough runners for a JV team. The JV Team was lead by Evan Shelton with a 5th place finish. Raegan Irwin and Colin Meade also ran exceptional races and shows both of them will be tough runners over the next few years. In this race we had 6 boys running their first High School Cross Country Race.

The Foxes and Lady Foxes travel to SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday Morning. The girls run at 9:30 am and the boys running at 10:15. This race will have around 900 total participants.
