The Foxes and Lady Foxes competed this weekend, in meets taking place at the REC center in Carbondale!
Raegan Halley was the sole competitor for the Lady Foxes at the SIU-Carbondale girls indoor meet on Friday night. Raegan Halley took on the mile in a stacked crowd and ended up bettering her time from last year at this same event by nine seconds. Raegan looked great and she did not have any of the issues that have plagued her in some of the races last year. Raegan ended up running a 6:31 for the mile. It looks like this could be another phenomenal season for this young lady.
The Foxes competed on Saturday and it was a long day for the eight competitors that we took to the meet. Field events kicked off at 10:00 a.m. and the Foxes had four competing in the meet. Wyn Duran was up first in the Pole Vault in a field of 36 competitors with an opening height of 10′-6″. That opening height quickly cleared out more than half of the competitors in the event. Wyn jumped well and was able to fix small issues from jump to jump to tie the school record of 11′-6″ held by Lonnie Benbrook from 1976. Damian Parker threw the shot put and did really well, especially considering we haven’t had much time this season through the shot yet. Justin Kidder and Jake Whipple did the long jump with Justin jumping 15′-3″ and Jake Whipple jumping 20′-11″, placing third. Jake also did the triple jump and placed third in it with a 40′-10″ jump. Justin Kidder ran a 8.18 in the 60m, Damian Parker ran 7.97 and Jake ran 7.16 to place 4th in the 60m race. Matt Rubenacker ran 2:12.98 and Trace Butler ran 2:30.6 for the 800m. Hunter Braden ran 10:56.41 in the two mile to improve his previous best by 3 seconds. The final event the Foxes competed in was the 400m, in which Caden Stover placed 16th with a time of 58.21.
The Foxes and Lady Foxes both did really well on the small amount of practice that they have had this far this year.
