Strumpher leading the way for a Boy’s 3rd Place Finish

Hamilton County Runner Stephen Strumpher is really turning it on in his final few meets of his Senior Year. Stephen finished 7th place overall today at the Benton Park and 1st place on the Foxes with a time of 18:35. Strumpher also turned in a great time at the Invitational on this past Monday at Benton. Chad Barnard finished 2nd on the team and 10th overall with a time of 18:49. Junior Tyler Byars had a rough race and finished in 12th place with a time of 18:56, he was hoping to be in the top five today at the race. Matt Rubenacker (17th)(19:16) and Trenton Butler (19:49)(22nd) rounded out the Foxes top five for a team score of 68, which was good enough for a 3rd place finish behind Fairfield and Benton. Freshman Clayton Cross turned in his best time of the season for a 3 mile course of 21:15. Clayton has really been turning it on lately to help, in case Trenton Butler’s tendonitis gets to bad. The Foxes advanced to the Sectionals which will be held next week at SIU-Edwardsville.

The Lady Foxes were once again led by Leslie Drone who turned in an impressive performance of 18:57. This was made even more impressive by the fact that she had little to no competition. Leslie will be the lone Lady Fox to advance to the Sectional Meet in Edwardsville. Rebekah Tallman (30:50) and Schuyler Bailey (31:46) were the only other Lady Foxes that competed today at the regional. Both Bekah and Schuyler constantly improved throughout the season and we are looking forward to seeing what they can do in track and in cross country next year.

Did you hear Leslie Drone on the 90.9 the Vine today? She did a great interview this morning which aired right before she took off and ran the regional race. Leslie Drone is a stellar athlete and very humble. My favorite quote from her was “If I make it out of Regionals then I will go to Edwardsville for the Sectional next week.” We had no doubt she would run away with this meet like many of the other ones she has ran this year. If you didn’t have a chance to listen to it, you can hear the interview by clicking here (at about the 58:30 mark).

The Sectional Meet next week is at Edwardsville, and will take place just north of the SIU-E campus, on their cross country course. The meet starts with the girl’s race at 10:00 a.m. and the boy’s race at 10:45 a.m. If you see any of the members of the boy’s team or if you see Leslie Drone, make sure that you wish them luck.
