FAIRFIELD INVITATIONAL NARRATIVE – 8/24/2015
The first meet of Hamilton County’s season went off without a hitch. The new Foxes and Lady Foxes of 2015 headed to Leo French Park in Fairfield to run. The weather this year was much better than last years temps on this date. Last year the temperature was well over 100 degrees and the meet was cancelled due to the heat. This year the weather was in the low 80s and was perfect for a good race. Many of the Lady Foxes’ and Foxes’ parents, friends and coaches made the short trip to Fairfield.
The Lady Foxes ran first, and this year they have a full team. Leslie Drone led the girls with a 1st Place finish overall taking a top five medal, Freshman Raegan Halley took the second spot on the team with a 7th place finish. Sophmore Jasmine Coomes finished in 21st place and Kaylee Chapman was 26th. Rounding out the Lady Foxes team were Schuyler Bailey, Leah Ragan and Jayda Johnson. For Raegan Halley, Kaylee Chapman, Leah Ragan and Jayda Johnson this was their first High School Cross Country meet. The Lady Foxes finished well with a 4th place finish out of 8 teams. They were without one of their runners, Maddy Holloman. The Lady Foxes will be a strong team and will put up good competition in the Conference and Regionals.
When the girls were done, it was time for the Foxes to take over and run the 3 mile course. Tyler Byars finished with a second place finish leading the Foxes to a second place finish narrowly getting beat by a tough Olney team. Tyler ran a great race and showed that his mileage he put in over the summer has really benifited him. Tyler ran a 17:16 which is the fastest he has ever ran on the Leo French park course. After Tyler finished, the Foxes had 3 sophmores finish (Matt Rubenacker 9th, Logan Hunt 10th and Clay Ragan 12th). These three sophmores really did a great job and showed how much strong will, each of them have. Chad Barnard took the 5th place on the team, with Trenton Butler and Clayton Cross rounding out the top seven. Alex Soltanipanah and Jonathon Jaegers did not run in this race, they will hopefully be ready for Saturday’s race at the SIU-Edwardsville. The boys team has a lot of talent and should be able to really make some wave over the next few years.
The Foxes and Lady Foxes travel to SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday Morning. The girls run at 9:30 am and the boys running at 10:15. This race will have around 900 total participants.
