FAIRFIELD INVITATIONAL (LEO FRENCH PARK) – 8/22/2017
NARRATIVE – 8/22/2017
The first meet of Hamilton County’s season started out well. The Foxes and Lady Foxes of the new 2017 season headed to Leo French Park in Fairfield to run the Tom Wickham Memorial Invitational. The temperature was in the lower 80s, almost identical to last years temperature. Many of the Lady Foxes’ and Foxes’ parents, and friends made the short trip to Fairfield.
The Lady Foxes ran first, and this year they have a 8 runners total. The Foxes had returning runners; Raegan Halley, Kaylee Chapman, Jasmine Coomes, Leah Ragan, Olivia Ragan and Abby Reyling. They added Sophomore Maddi Jo Maxwell and Freshmen runner Kylee Vaughan. The lady foxes finished in 4th place out of 8 teams behind Olney, Lawrenceville and Mt.Carmel.
The next event was the Varsity boys race on the tough 3 mile course. Hunter Braden led the Foxes to third place finish as a team. The boys team has 21 runners this year and a ton of talent it should be really exciting to see who puts in work and who moves up through the rankings. The Foxes Varsity 7 at FF were Hunter Braden, Matt Rubenacker, Trenton Butler, Logan Hunt, Evan Shelton, Kaden Richards and Adam Wellen. The Foxes were without Theron Smith and Clay Ragan due to injuries and hope to have them back soon.
The Foxes this year also have enough runners for a JV team and then some. The JV Team was lead by Keegan Johnson with a 3rd place finish (the Foxes Lone Medalist on this day). The Foxes had 10 running the JV race.
The Foxes and Lady Foxes travel to SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday Morning. The girls run at 9:30 am and the boys running at 10:15. This race will have around 1500 total participants.
