West Frankfort Invitational (West Frankfort Park) – 9/6/2018
RESULTS FROM THE BOYS RACE – Race was Cancelled
NARRATIVE – 9/6/2018
The Foxes Cross Country teams competed at the West Frankfort Park today in the West Frankfort Invitational. The Foxes ended up with a 3rd place finish by the girls with 18 teams being represented in the race.
The girls were up first, this year we knew the girls would have a lot of tough competition with Nashville, DuQuoin, Carmi and many more teams being in full force. As the race got under way the rain began to pour. It rained pretty much throughout the last mile of most of the runners race. The girls ran really well and had many PR performances by the girls. Maddie Karcher took 1st for the team with a 2nd place overall finish in a time of 18:34. Maddie was leading the majority of the race and just got out kicked in the final stretch of the race. The Foxes next runner was Caroline Lueke who turned in a solid performance and placed 2nd on the team and 20th in the race. Maddie and Caroline both received t-shirts for being in the top 20 at the race. Raegan Halley was up next finishing in 27th place overall. The rest of the Foxes in order were Ashlee Wellen (34th), Olivia Ragan (38th), Jocelyn Moles (39th) and Maddi Jo Maxwell (80th). The Lady Foxes have been running well and will continue to improve throughout the season. They will have to work to beat Carmi and Nashville in future races. The Lady Foxes turned in a respectable 121 points for a 3rd place finish on the day behind DuQuoin (1st) and Nashville (2nd).
The boys were up next starting at 5:00 p.m.. The boys were coming into the WF Invite looking to test their strength as a team against Nashville, Herrin and other strong teams. The boys were all warmed up and ready to go at the starting line when the race was postponed for 30 minutes due to lightning. The 30 minute delay quickly turned into a meet cancellation and the Foxes went home with only one race finished on the day.
The Foxes next meet will be Thursday at the Norris City Invitational. For full details on the Norris City race click here.
