9/23/2017 – Freeburg Invitational

As if last weekend wasn’t hot enough, this weekend was another scorcher. This was the first year we have ever went to Freeburg and after talking to the athletes I don’t think it will be the last time. The Foxes had everyone on the team except for Laban Hunt. The Girls ran first and the team ended up finishing 12th out of 15 full teams. For the boys Theron Smith and Hunter Braden finished in the top thirty to take home medals, there was 191 total runners in the boys race. The Boys ended up in 6th place out of 23 full teams.

In the girls race Jasmine Coomes was first for the Foxes with a 37th place overall finish with a time of 22:08. Olivia Ragan was second on the team with 64th place, Raegan Halley was 65th, and Kaylee Chapman with a 68th place finish. The Lady Foxes 5th runner has been a point of work for this season and at this meet Abby Reyling was 5th on the Foxes with a season PR of 27:05 for 86th place. Jevin Shreve was 88th, Leah Ragan was 91st, Maddi Jo Maxwell was 93rd and Kylee Vaughan was 94th. The Lady Foxes have a few wrinkles to iron out but should have it fixed shortly. The Lady Foxes finished with 320 points in 12th place out of 15 full teams. There was 27 teams in the race, but some of them did not have 5 or more runners.

In the Boys race at 9:45, the Foxes were able to run 10 varsity runners instead of the usual 7 runners. The Foxes runners took off quick, which is essential in a large race. Freeburg’s course is mostly a paved path which makes it a quick course. Finishing first for the Foxes was Theron Smith in 24th place, second was Hunter Braden in 27th place, third was Matt Rubenacker in 40th place, Kaden Richards was fourth in 43th place and Trenton Butler finished the scoring five in 47th place. The Foxes finished with 181 points in 6th place out of 23 full teams.

In the Open Keegan Johnson took 7th and Clay Ragan took 19th, both received medals. The other 8 Foxes running in the open had great times, and have constantly improved over the length of the season. The Foxes as a whole had a great showing but will have to improve to make a run deep in the post season.

Lots of parents made the one hour and forty-five minute drive to Freeburg. It’s always great to see parents making the long trip to cheer on their children!
