NARRATIVE – 8/27/2019
The first meet of Hamilton County’s season started out well. The Foxes and Lady Foxes of the new 2019 season headed to the New meet location at Southwest Park to run the Tom Wickham Memorial Invitational. The temperature was around 80 degrees. The new location of Southwest Park had some benefits and some disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage was there was no shade on the course. Many of the Lady Foxes’ and Foxes’ parents, and friends made the short trip to Fairfield.
The Lady Foxes ran first, and this year they have a 10 runners total. The Foxes have returning runners; Olivia Ragan, Kylee Vaughan, Maddie Karcher, Caroline Lueke, Jocelyn Moles, and Ashlee Wellen. They added Junior Lenora Watt, Sophomores Dacey Webb and Brooklyn Welch, and Freshman Jordan Tinsley.
The lady foxes finished in 3rd place out of 7 teams behind Olney, and Mt. Carmel. The Lady Foxes were led by Sophomore Maddie Karcher who placed 2nd place overall with a time of 20:33. She was followed in order by Ashlee Wellen, Caroline Lueke, Olivia Ragan, and Jocelyn Moles. The Lady Foxes open runners were led by Dacey Webb who was the 3rd place girl in the JV race and was followed in order by Lenora Watt, Jordan Tinsley and Brooklyn Welch.
The Foxes have returning runners; Theron Smith, Adam Wellen, Evan Shelton, Trace Butler, Brady Thrane, Aaron Meade, Will Jones, Ian Stover, Austin Stanley, Dylan Halley, Ben Irvin, and Seth Davenport. They added Juniors Shawn Braden and Owen Shelton, Sophomore Nathan Kaufman, and Freshmen Owen Braden, Wyatt Brown and Braydon Middendorf.
The next event was the Varsity boys race on the 2.94 mile course. Theron Smith led the Foxes to second place finish as a team. The boys team has 18 runners this year and a ton of talent it should be really exciting to see who puts in work and who moves up through the rankings. The Foxes Varsity seven at Fairfield were Theron Smith, Adam Wellen, Evan Shelton, Trace Butler, Brady Thrane, Aaron Meade, and Will Jones. The Foxes had a total of 67 points, which was second behind only Olney.
The Foxes this year also had enough runners for a JV team and then some. The JV Team was lead by Braydon Middendorf with a 3rd place finish. The Foxes then finished in order Ian Stover, Shawn Braden, Owen Braden, Austin Stanley, Wyatt Brown, Dylan Halley, Owen Shelton, Ben Irvin, Nathan Kaufman, and Seth Davenport. The Foxes had 11 finish the JV race.
The Foxes and Lady Foxes travel to SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday Morning. All girls run at 9:30 am and all of the boys running at 10:15. This race will have around 1000 total participants.
