Drone takes Second at Carterville, Boys take Fourth as a team.

On a nice cool day in Carterville, the Lady Foxes / Foxes ran really well. Leslie Drone and Jasmine Coomes were the first two to run on Saturday. Leslie took off and right away was challenging for the first spot in the race. Drone stayed competitive and stayed within striking distance of Farrell from Herrin. Leslie finished one second behind Farrell (17:25). Jasmine Coomes also turned in another impressive time of 21:25. Jasmine ran hard, but she had a bad cramp that kept her from running as well as she could have. Herrin won the girl’s team race. The girls are looking to have a full team for the rest of the season’s meets.

The Foxes took off at 10:30 and were looking to take one of the top spots. Chad Barnard led the Foxes through the first mile before Tyler Byars took over. Tyler led the Foxes the rest of the way finishing in 8th place with a time of 16:52. Finishing in 18th and 19th place were Chad Barnard (17:31) and Matt Rubenacker (17:34). Shortly behind them were Stephen Strumpher (22nd – 17:36) and Trenton Butler (23rd – 17:41) rounding out the top five places. Clayton Cross finished in 43rd (20:06) and Garrett Craddock finished in 55th place. The Foxes ran well as a team and placed 4th overall. They placed their top 5 people in front of Benton’s number 3 runner but narrowly got out edged by Benton for the 3rd place. Pinckneyville was the 1st place team in the boy’s race.
