22nd Annual Firecracker Run Summary

The 22nd Annual Firecracker 5k Run took place on July 11th, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. with exactly 100 people registered. This was one of the first local races to take place since Cornavirus had taken the mainstream and wiped out the majority of races around Illinois. Due to Coronavirus, many extra precautions took place and we are proud to say that no one who attended the race tested positive for Coronavirus in the weeks after the race. The weather for the race was extremely nice and many people who attended the race came from out of town to run in the race.

The 5k Run winners were Ty Barbre of Carmi and Kate Bushue from Mt. Vernon. Ty ran a time of 16:24 easily distancing himself from everyone else in the race. Ty is a senior in high school and an all-state cross-country runner. Kate ran a time of 18:34 which was almost three minutes ahead of the next female and ahead of all the male runners except for four of them.
