Well, after last years rain out, the Hamilton County Invitational was not going to be denied this year. The weather was just right and the Foxes were ready to run. Many of the parents and families of the Ham Co runners helped out to make the invitational a huge hit. We had a great concession stand with brats, hotdogs and much much more, we had a huge tent put up by Don Burke, sound provided by Troy Rubenacker and many many more items to numerous to name or list. We support like this the Foxes had to show up and run hard.
The JV race was first with over 12 schools represented in each of the races the Foxes would have to run hard to have a chance to take home some hardware. The JV Foxes were on this day, Clay Ragan, Logan Hunt, Matt Rubenacker, Trenton Butler and Clayton Cross. These are a talent bunch of young kids who have a lot to look forward to in the end of this season and the upcoming years. Clay Ragan lead his team to 1st place victory with a 1st place individual win. Logan Hunt finished 2nd, Matt Rubenacker was 4th, and Trenton Butler took home the 8th place trophy.
The Lady Foxes ran next with Leslie Drone running looking to lead her team to a top three finish and hoping to finish first overall in the race. Leslie took off and never lost sight of the finish, on this day she didn’t have to fight against her lack of breath and that helped her take the 1st place spot. Jasmine Coomes finished 5th Overall, and Raegan Halley also took home a trophy in 9th place. The team finished 2nd place behind Nashville. The lady Foxes are looking forward to running well at Conference and competing for the 1st place spot.
The Varsity Foxes ran last at 5:30 p.m.. Tyler Byars, Chad Barnard, Alex Soltanipanah and Johnathon Jaegers competed to show what they were made of, even without having a full varsity team. Tyler Byars took off quick but quickly ran into a Nashville wall in the Chapel trail within the first half mile of the race. Tyler held up a little but then hopped the wall and was off to the races. At the mile and 2 mile mark Tyler held a slight lead over Nashville’s Brandon Schnitker. The two of them traded positions back for the rest of the race and Tyler was slightly out distanced to finish the race in 2nd behind Schnitker. Tyler ran a PR (16:00:16) in the race and put up one of the best Fox finish times at the Hamilton County Invitational since it’s inception at Dolan Lake. Shortly after Tyler was Chad Barnard who placed 13th overall and picked up a Trophy. Alex Soltanipanah ran a PR and was delightfully happy as he finished into the finish chute. Johnathon Jaegers also improved his race times a lot in this race.
The Foxes next race is on Thursday at the Black Diamond Conference at Dolan Lake. Girls race at 4:00 p.m. and the boy’s race is at 4:30p.m. Come out and cheer on this great group of kids!
